The CO2 laser is a carbon dioxide laser with a wavelength of 10,600 nanometres. It is highly precise, so it destroys only the tissue being treated with very little bleeding. It is used in two ways. Ablative use treats moles, birthmarks, seborrhoeic keratoses, skin tags, fatty lumps, severe acne and warts. Fractional use resurfaces the skin and treats acne scars, uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, stretch marks and scar tissue. Zinya Clinic uses the Monalisa Fractional CO2 Laser.

Keep the treated area dry for the first 24 to 48 hours. Scabs usually come away on their own within about 7 to 14 days, while swelling and any weeping generally settle within 5 to 7 days. Redness fades gradually to pink and returns to normal within roughly 3 to 4 months. During recovery, apply antibiotic ointment or petroleum jelly as prescribed, never pick or scratch the scabs, and once they have gone use sunscreen consistently and avoid strong sun for at least another 2 weeks.

Avoid strong sun exposure for at least 2 weeks beforehand, stop any medication or supplement that affects blood clotting as advised by your doctor, and always disclose existing medical conditions, current medication and any drug allergies. Patients under 20 need consent and must be accompanied by a guardian on the day.
